FRANCESCA M DEGIORGIO

Born in Brindisi in 1986, she moved to Milano to undertake fashion design studies at Politecnico di Milano. In 2011 she graduated with the final thesis project “Finestre sul mondo”, a parallelism between Fashion and Cinema expression techniques that analyses the different levels of coherence of the artistic product with the everyday reality versus theatrical/ factitious abstraction, supported by interviews to innovative fashion brands that propose alternative performances to the classic fashion shows as form of presentation of their collections (ex. Bless, Boudicca). After the graduation she deepened her competences at Central Saint Martin in London. The year after she won the contest “Elle Competition” for the best portfolio so she got a Master Degree at the international institute Domus Academy in Milan. During her educational path she attended several workshops in collaboration with renowned companies like Etro, Hermes, L’Oreal Paris, artists like the photographer Cristina Nunez, the pattern maker Julian Roberts, the illustrator Natalie Ascencios and lecturers/designers such as Monica Tempesta and Ennio Capasa. During these years she literally started to put her hands in the dough and discovered her passion for textile manipulation, fabric treatments and dyeing techniques Her first working experience has been as apparel graphic designer for a consulting agency based in Milan. After a 6 months internship as fashion design assistant for the contemporary brand Lucio Vanotti, in 2014 she started her experience in Diesel Black Gold, under the creative direction of the Norwegian/New York based designer Andreas Melbostad, participating actively to Milano and New York fashion weeks. She worked for the first line of Diesel for the next 4 years moving from womenswear to both genders with a focus on experimental denimwear, leading the special treatments department. Between 2018 and 2023 she collaborated with the Californian brand 7 For All Mankind, living between Italy and Switzerland, where the European headquarter of the company is located. She was responsible for the main women collection and the seasonal collaborations (N°21 by Alessandro dell’Acqua, Marques Almeida). During 2023 she worked as Senior designer for the conceptual brand Vetements based between Zurich and Paris, with a focus on special projects across all categories of garments and accessories (womenswear and menswear).
In the same year she designed and produced the stage costumes for the performance Where Do We Go From Here, a project directed by Simon Waldvogel.
This collaboration represents an enlightening turning point in her journey as a designer also towards contemporary theatre, dance and performing arts.
Next to her main working path she has always created personal projects focused on minimal outerwear pieces with a twist in the volumes once worn on the body and recycled/leftover treated fabrics collage pieces. In this box with no creative boundaries and commercial limits she puts together her main interests: textile experimentation, photography, graphic and storytelling.

“I like the rain before it falls.
Of course there is no such thing...That's why it's my favorite” J. C.
